This young opossum arrived at our hospital in the middle of January after enduring the harsh winter weather. She was thin, dehydrated, and suffering from severe frostbite to her tail. The damaged tissue had become necrotic, exposing tendon, muscle, and even possible bone.

After being stabilized with fluids, warmth, and supportive care, our veterinary team determined that the healthiest option was to perform a small tail amputation to remove the damaged tissue and prevent further complications.

Over the following months, this resilient little patient recovered beautifully. With proper nutrition, pain management, and plenty of time to heal, she steadily regained her strength and adapted remarkably well to life with a shortened tail.

We are thrilled to share that she was successfully released back into the wild, where she has a second chance to thrive. Her journey is a testament to the resilience of wildlife and the impact that timely rehabilitation can have.

Thank you to our dedicated staff, volunteers, and supporters who make stories like hers possible. Every animal that comes through our doors receives the care they need because of your generosity.
