This saw-whet owl was assessed by our doctors at the National Wildlife Centre after sustaining head trauma. Initially he was unable to fly and was very quite- most likely with a massive head ache! With supportive care including oxygen, anti-inflammatories, and other pain medications this small raptor began to fly again!
An eye exam revealed ulcers on both eyes. This requires eye drops three times a day as the ulcers heal. Our doctors are keeping a close eye on these eyes to ensure they heal according to plan to allow for a successful release.
Thank you to all involved in this bird’s care including Shades of Hope wildlife rescue.
