This raccoon had an early start to life only weighing 1.1kg on intake! Being very inquisitive, she came across a porcupine resulting in quills getting stuck in her face. One of the quills migrated resulting in an abscess of her chin.
Our doctors at the National Wildlife Centre were able to sedate the raccoon and clean out the abscess. Unfortunately the abscess involved her jaw bone which will require long term antibiotic treatment.
With tender loving care from Aspen Valley Wildlife Sanctuary and continued monitoring and treatment by our doctors at the National Wildlife Centre, we are hoping for a full recovery.
Update (March 2, 2018)
Our early baby is healing well and resting rather comfortably at Aspen Valley Wildlife Sanctuary. We expect a full recovery just in time for spring!
